The Government Relations Team is committed to providing Next members with an opportunity to get involved and engaged in the public policy discussion with the hopes of making a positive difference for the future of Norman. Part of this task is accomplished by holding local events to help inform our members and the public.
In June 2008, Norman NEXT hosted a political forum, “Get out the Vote”, with local and national political representatives, including State Senator John Sparks, State Representative Scott Martin, Pat Hall and Marc Nuttle.
In December 2009, Norman NEXT hosted a “Vote for Kids” event that encouraged members of the community to get out and vote “YES” for the school bond issue.
In place of the February 2010 Roundtable Luncheon, Norman NEXT hosted an evening Mayoral debate at the City of Norman that featured Mayoral candidates Cindy Rosenthal and Hal Ezzell. This debate, co-hosted with the Chamber, was one of the best attended debates in several years.d Marc Nuttle.
In September 2010, NEXT plans to host a Gubernatorial debate between the two remaining candidates. Time, date and place are to be announced soon.
