Community Activism

The goal of the Community Activism Team is to engage young professionals through community involvement and volunteerism with Norman’s social service organizations.

2011-12 Team Goals:

Goal:  Create awareness for volunteer opportunities in the community and facilitate ways for young professionals to get involved through community activism.

Initiative 1:  In light of the United Way's current initiative to create a volunteer center, we will utilize their resources and direct potential volunteers to their agency.  The goal for the CA team is to connect volunteers with UW.
How this goal will be measured:  To measure our achievement of this goal, we will track volunteer hours.
When:  Once the United Way has set up the Volunteer Center

Initiative 2: Coordinate bi-annual Kickball Tournament
When: October
Who: Open to Community, Organized by CA Team
*Open additional sponsorship opportunities to businesses (i.e. "base sponsors") that will include their name on signage, an article in the paper, a thank-you ad in the paper.  Create a sponsorship packet/flyer before approaching businesses
*Use the tournament as a kick-off to create "Community Involvement Teams" within companies (with 50 or more employees ideally) that currently do not volunteer as an office/encourage employee community engagement

Initiative 3:  Coordinate involvement in community volunteer events

Who:  Norman NEXT members      
What:  Team for United Way of Norman Day of Caring

Goal:  Provide an outlet for non-profit organizations to educate Norman NEXT members on their services and needs.

Initiative 1:  Non-profit Fair
When:  March
Who:  CA team will invite non-profits and coordinate logistics   
What:  An evening event in which non-profit organizations have the opportunity to host a booth and inform NN members about their organization.
