Community Activism

The goal of the Community Activism Team is to engage young professionals through community involvement and volunteerism with Norman’s social service organizations.

2010-11 Team Goals:

  • Two large volunteer opportunities - Day of Caring (September) and Habitat for Humanity build
  • Update/compile list of consistently available volunteer opportunities for those that desire to volunteer on their own time.
  • Feature one agency each month in our newsletter and include what types of volunteer opportunities they provide, as well as any other assistance they might be outside of financial (i.e. diapers at CCFI). Note: one CA team member will be responsible for each month. Summer is going to e-mail a large group of agencies to see who would like to participate for the remainder of 2010 and we hope to continue in 2011 if successful.
  • Create a donation component of our annual combined event with OKC/Edmond (i.e. the toy drive we held at Skirvin)
  • Contact agencies about possible three month Board internships (much like Leadership Norman) for NEXT members to provide a deeper understanding of an agency, issue and non-profit in general as well as mentoring.
  • Recruiting new members to the Community Activism team (or encouraging those signed up to get involved)
